Today we begin a new feature of Radio Free Daglan, “Dish du jour.” Each day’s photo will highlight a particularly smart-looking dish, or an inventive one, or a seriously delicious one.
Today we had a wonderful, relaxing lunch at Le Relais des 5 chateaux, a hotel and restaurant located near Daglan in the village of Vézac; its name refers to the (guess what) five chateaus that are poised around and above the valley, including the great Castelnaud and the imposing Beynac, once owned by Richard the Lionheart. In any case, there was kir and vin de noix to begin; then delicious grilled chevre with fine herbs on brioche and mixed salad; then fish with Monbazillac sauce for my wife and chicken blanquette for me; all accompanied by a Julien de Savignac chardonnay; and then dessert — ice cream and fruit for my wife, and today’s featured dish for me: A baked crepe, filled with perfectly cooked apple slices, on a nicely decorated plate. It looked much like this:
